Frequently Asked Questions for Plasma Eye Lift

What is Plasma?

Plasma is one of the four fundamental states of matter, and was first described by chemist Irving Langmuir in the 1920s. In our situation the Plasma BT Surgical™ turns the gases in the air into an ionized gas consisting of positive ions and free electrons - this is Plasma.

How does Plasma work on the skin?

Plasma works to create ionizing gas from the environmental gases and so, in an extremely localised and safe manner, stimulates the skin. There is immediate tightening. As the skin heals it develops first type 3 collagen and later type 1 collagen. The result is thicker, tightened and more youthful skin.

How do the results compare to eyelid / eyebag surgery?

Each person has an individual response. The results can be modest or as good as surgery.

Is there any pain?

A powerful local anaesthetic cream is applied and other support measures are available. Most people tolerate the 10 minute procedure very well and rate the pain at 1-3 out of 10.

Is there any recovery time?

You can return to normal activities immediately. However, the delicate eye area can swell for 2-3 days - this can be treated by medication. The small brown 'dots' on the skin that are part of the treatment fall off in 5-7 days.

If your everyday appearance is important to you, then consider around 5 days of social down time.

How many Plasma eye lift treatments are needed?

A result is seen immediately. For long lasting results, 3 treatments are recommended, several weeks apart - it takes time for the collagen to fully remodel.

Can it treat acne scars?

Yes. This treatment would be part of a full Acne scar reduction programme involving other treatments in the clinic as well. This treatment may reduce the need for a procedure called Subscision whereby a needle would be placed under the skin to cut tethered scar tissue.

What about upper lip lines?

Plasma BT surgical™ can be a very satisfying treatment for these lines. A fractionated or ablative laser would be associated with 1-3 weeks down time. Instead, this procedure can be performed under a numbing injection and carries with it a shorter down time.

What about other scars?

Around the umbilicus, crows feet, and other facial or body scars. Skin tags and sun damage spots.

Preparing For Your PlasmaEye Lift BT Surgical™ Treatment

Once you have decided to go ahead with a PLASMA BT SURGICAL™ treatment, here are some suggestions about how to get through it well, and recover quickly afterwards.

Be aware of any conditions you may have that will mean you should not have this treatment. Plasma BT surgical™ treatment is not recommended for the following patients

  • Poorly controlled Diabetics.
  • Pregnant or breast-feeding women.
  • bleeding disorders or taking anticoagulant drugs, supplements of herbs.
  • recent infection or inflammation in the area.

The local anaesthetic cream and injections should be used with caution in those with

  • epilepsy
  • impaired cardiac conduction
  • severely impaired liver function
  • severe kidney failure.

  1. Book your treatment for the first part of your menstrual cycle. Some women may feel discomfort more and have lower emotional reserve during their premenstrual time.
  2. The risk of bruising or bleeding may be increased by medications with anticoagulant (blood thinning) effects such as
    • aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, Voltaren, Celebrex),
    • high doses of Vitamin E, and
    • certain herbs (Omega 3 fish oil, Krill Oil, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John's Wort, garlic, Ginger, other herbs).
    • You must discuss these with us. In many cases, you can still proceed, but need to stop these one week beforehand.
  3. THIS TREATMENT CARRIES SOME DOWN TIME. Book your time off, and be prepared for the recovery period if you need to look good for your work. If the eyes have been treated, there is likely to be swelling for 2-3 days which can be managed by medication. There is usually no bruising. The brown 'dots' fall off at 5 - 7 days. If your job or activities are appearance sensitive, then you will need 5-6 days off.
  4. Prepare for the aftercare required. Mostly it's about not doing strenuous exercise and not drinking alcohol that day, using ice for the next few hours and taking it quietly. Also use the special after care gel which you will be applying three times per day.
  5. Setting your appointment time will depend on your work and social requirements. Make your appointment well in advance of any special occasions. Booking late in the week for most people will allow the weekend for some recovery - the rest may require the use of concealer and large sunglasses!
